Summary: Discover the mysteries of native Florida at Emerson Point Preserve, a beautiful coastal park surrounded by the Manatee River and Terra Ceia Bay. Enjoy an expert guided morning walk through beautiful native habitats from mangrove forest to tropical hammocks and spot songbirds, woodpeckers, osprey and wading birds. Discover what thrives beneath the waves by wading into the lush seagrass beds with a dip net!  Then, explore the ancient Portavent Temple Mound, Southwest Florida’s largest Native American Temple Mound, while your expert guide demonstrates their ancient tools and explains the archaeology of these Native Americans who thrived on this site 1200 years ago.

Duration: 8:30 am – 11:30 am (3 hrs)

What to wear: wear clothing that is both quick to dry and provides protection from the sun and sport sandals (like Tevas). In the winter months, you’ll be happy to have a fleece to layer on and off. In the summer months, a cooling towel or handkerchief feels nice.

What to bring: personal water bottle, hat, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, bug repellent, pocket-sized binoculars, breathable rain poncho.
